In honor of ABC’s “The Goldbergs” receiving its first ever TV Guide Magazine cover, the publication has turned back the dial with an all ’80s-themed issue, due out on newsstands later this week. As part of the celebration, several of daytime’s biggest hunks from the decade will be featured in the upcoming issue, including Kin Shriner (as Scotty Baldwin, “General Hospital”), Stephen Nichols (as Steven “Patch” Johnson, “Days of our Lives”), A Martinez (as Cruz Castillo, “Santa Barbara”), Doug Davidson (as Paul Williams, “The Young and the Restless”), Don Diamont (as Brad Carlton, “The Young and the Restless”) and Michael E. Knight (as Tad Martin, “All My Children”).
Although a few of the actors are currently moonlighting on different soaps as different characters — Martinez as Eduardo Hernandez on “DAYS,” Diamont as Bill Spencer on “The Bold and the Beautiful” and Knight as Dr. Simon Neville on “The Young and the Restless” — the actors all have at least one thing in common: They are still “STUD-sational,” according to former “DAYS” and “One Life to Live” star Kassie DePaiva, who herself spent a portion of the ’80s as Chelsea Reardon on “Guiding Light.”
“Excited for you guys to see,” wrote Michael Schneider, Chief Content Officer, TV Guide Magazine, on the upcoming issue.

“One Life to Live” fans had the privilege of literally watching Kristen Alderson grow up via her portrayal of Starr Manning, a role she landed back in 1998. And “General Hospital” fans then had the unique privilege of watching the actress shed the character she’d played for nearly 14 years on OLTL and embody her new character — Kiki Jerome — right before their eyes. The journey has been filled with a lot of ups and downs, but Alderson recently shared with Soap Opera Network that Kiki is finally coming into her own — which she couldn’t be more thrilled about!
“So much is happening right now!” the Pennsylvania native enthuses of her “GH” storylines. “She gets involved in people’s business, other than Michael’s (Chad Duell) business, which is really fun. I am really excited about the storyline coming up. It was so fun to shoot, and I feel like it’ll be really entertaining.”

And the reason Alderson loves it so much is that she feels Kiki is finally getting her stride — as is the show in general! “I think that we’re really focusing on the core characters again; for awhile, we were bringing in a lot of [past characters], and I think now, they’re kind of like, ‘Ok, the characters that we have now, let’s really broaden their horizons,’” she explains. “And that’s how I feel, at least, as a character. The stuff that I’ve been filming recently that will be airing soon, I feel it was meant for Kiki. It’s making her really cool and independent from Michael, which is really exciting. I’m really proud of [headwriter] Ron [Carlivati], and I think that [the writers] are on the right track.”
Though Alderson has been playing Kiki for quite some time now, she admits that she’s just now starting to feel that she has fully embraced the new character without too many elements of Starr. “When the change had to be made with Kiki, it was really tough. I called [Carlivati], and I was like, ‘Hey, am I playing Kiki right? Is everything good?’” she recalls. “He said, ‘You’re doing great, but it’s hard for me, because I instantly start writing you as Starr!’… Just because they all grew up watching me as Starr, which is great; that’s what makes the characters connect to me. So if that’s the way it works, that’s the way it works. And now I feel like there’s still enough Kiki from the beginning, but there’s also a little bit of Starr. It’s a little mix, and I’m proud of Ron, that he’s been able to do that, and grateful, because that’s why the audience is still liking me.”
John P. Iblis/JPI Studios
Though the actress has pretty much shed her OLTL character, she hasn’t allowed the show to fully leave her life. In fact, she explains that she recently had a reunion with some of her former Llanview co-stars! “We just went out to dinner with Michael Easton [Silas Clay, “GH;’ ex-John McBain, “OLTL”], Kassie [DePaiva, Eve Donovan, “Days of our Lives;” ex-Blaire Cramer, “OLTL”] and Trevor [St. John, ex-Victor Lord/Todd Manning, “OLTL], and it was so nice,” she shares. “Chad met Trevor for the first time and cracked him up, of course. That was really fun. And we all do stay in touch on Facebook. You might not see the person all the time, but you know that we’re there for each other, all the cast and crew.”
Speaking of crew, “DAYS” actress Alison Sweeney (Sami Brady) has done some directing at “GH,” and while Alderson hasn’t been able to work with the actress directly, she has observed Sweeney at work behind the cameras. “I’ve seen her shadow other directors, and she’s very quiet and keeps to herself,” Alderson reveals. “She’s very focused on doing her thing.”
Jill Johnson/JPI Studios
But did seeing Sweeney at work convince Alderson to try her hand at something behind the cameras? “It would be kind of cool, but at the end of the day, I love acting. I feel like I could write a few ideas, but then I’d need an actual writer to write the script!” she says with a laugh. “I could say, ‘Oh, I have a great idea about a movie: Make it about this, this, this and this — now go write it for me!”
Whether she spreads her wings or chooses to stay in front of the camera, one thing is for sure: Alderson’s fans will stand behind her, which the actress is extremely grateful for. “I’ve gotten nothing but support from the fans and nothing but love,” she enthuses. “To see these people that have been going to fan events since I was so little, and they’re still going now, but for ‘General Hospital,’ means so much to me. It’s a beautiful thing.”
Soap actors aren’t typically shocked by the twists and turns thrown their characters’ way, accepting that paternity switches, affairs and returning from the dead are par for the course. But the latest twist that landed “Days of our Lives’” Eve (Kassie DePaiva) and J.J. (Casey Moss) in bed together had both of their portrayers’ jaws dropping!
“The fans knew it, but we didn’t know it,” Moss says of the storyline turn that’s sure to devastate Paige (True O’Brien) — J.J.’s girlfriend and Eve’s daughter. “I was absolutely surprised, because we didn’t know we were going to go there for like a month into our scenes. And then the director was like, ‘Oh, you guys need to turn up the heat here. You’ve got to kiss, you’ve got to grab her right here and really look at her and kind of get off on her,’ and I’m like, ‘Oh? Why?’ ‘Well, your storyline is going that way!’”
“I was shocked,” DePaiva also admits. “One of my first scenes was with Casey. I took my shirt up, and I did not know that was going to be the story. I had lunch with [co-executive producer] Greg Meng about a month into my role, and I was going, ‘You know, I want to make sure I’m doing everything [right],’ because it was so weird to play a role and not have any connection to a guy or have a love interest. And he didn’t drop the bomb, didn’t tell me the story! He was just like, ‘Yeah, we still haven’t figured out who we’re going to put you with,’ and then he goes, ‘What do you think about Casey Moss?’ And I was still [lost]! I said, ‘He’s great. Paige and J.J. are the future of the show, they’re the supercouple that you fight for.’ And he knew [all along that] I was just going to be the aging ho!”
The damage has been done, and there’s no turning back — which affects both characters in very different ways. As fans saw, Eve’s immediate response to sleeping with her daughter’s boyfriend was pure disgust. “She was so grossed out,” DePaiva says. “She just wanted to go and do what I call the ‘Silkwood shower’ and just get all the ick off. Very painful.”
Howard Wise/JPI Studios
J.J. seems disgusted, too. But Moss says it’s not necessarily the case. “I think they both don’t actually feel that way,” he guesses. “They’re just saying that because that’s the way they’re supposed to be feeling afterward, to block out the feelings. Like, ‘I didn’t feel anything for you. You’re gross.’
While neither actor could reveal whether or not the characters will find themselves sleeping together again, both muse that it’s definitely possible. “When you make a mistake like that, I feel like the natural outcome later on is to possibly just say ‘Screw it. I’ve already done it, I’m already this piece of crap, I’m already this person, so might as well just do my thing now, because I’ve proved to my self that I’m bad. I have confirmation now.’ When you’re dealing with a lot of pain, and you don’t know how to deal with it, it almost becomes comfortable, and you kind of just want to stay there… It’s a cluster of emotion. So will it happen again or not? I can’t say that. I think you can probably judge that based on how it looked on camera!”
Howard Wise/JPI Studios
“It’s exciting to watch, because it’s good drama, but there’s an ick factor to it, you know? But you understand it,” DePaiva adds. “When I watch the scenes this week unfold, I felt Eve’s pain. You saw J.J .struggling with his thing. And she was looking for love in all the wrong places and for the comfort, and I think J.J. is somebody that kind of understands her. They understand each other musically, and they’re both kind of misunderstood, they act out, they have no impulse control.”
All of which, both actors say, leads to an exciting couple of months ahead. “The next five months, it’s good stuff. Really, really good drama.”
UPDATE 5:25 PM, ET: An ABC representative has confirmed to Soap Opera Network that Kristen Alderson will be departing “General Hospital” in the near future. No further details were released.
PREVIOUS 5:15 PM, ET: After joining the cast of ABC’s “General Hospital” in the contract role of Starr Manning in 2012, which she originated in 1998 on “One Life to Live” when she was just 6 years old, Daytime Emmy Award winner Kristen Alderson (Kiki Jerome) has decided to leave the daytime drama series.
Word of Aldersdon’s exit from “GH” came to light via a report by Soap Opera Digest, citing setside sources. Alderson’s real-life love, Chad Duell (Michael Corinthos), later confirmed the news on Twitter, where he stated, “[it] was her decision btw” in response to Digest‘s initial reporting.
In January 2012, it was announced that Alderson, along with on screen parents Roger Howarth (Franco; ex-Todd Manning) and Kassie DePaiva (Eve Donovan, “Days of our Lives”; ex-Blair Cramer), would be uprooting her character from Llanview, following the cancellation of “OLTL” by ABC, to Port Charles. Alderson debuted the following month.
In 2013, a lawsuit was filed against ABC surrounding the network’s use of “OLTL” characters on “GH” after the network had previously licensed them to Prospect Park, who at the time was gearing up for the online reboot of “OLTL” and “All My Children.” ABC later opted to bring the actors back to “GH,” but as new characters.
Learning of Alderson’s upcoming exit from “GH,” DePaiva tweeted, “Oh no!!! She can be my long lost daughter #DAYS.”
Reps for the actress and “GH” were unavailable at press time.
A last airdate for Alderson is not known at this time, but Digest notes that she’ll be wrapping her stint very soon.
Although it had been rumored for several weeks, actress Kassie DePaiva has confirmed on her official website that she has indeed been let go from NBC’s “Days of our Lives” after portraying Eve Donovan on the daytime soap for more than a year.
“As the sand runs out of my hourglass over at Days… I have no regrets. I had a truly remarkable experience there. From the beginning as Eve showed up in town and throughout her bumpy ride through Salem it has all been a good time for me. I got to work with people that I have admired for many years,” wrote DePaiva on her official website. “I especially want to thank Melissa Reeves, True OBrien, Casey Moss, Jen Lilley, Wally Kurth, and A Martinez. They each helped me find the ‘real’ Eve. It saddens me to have been let go from the show just as Eve was finally finding her footing… But that is the way the Soap business goes. Characters come and go just as actors, writers, and producers. Some we love… Some we hate… But fortunately for all of us the stories still go on. Keep watching and here’s to 50 more years of Days of our Lives!!!”
Look for DePaiva to remain on the canvas for several more months as production is currently ahead by six months from what is seen on air.
You can read DePaiva’s full post below:
(September 20, 2015) I cannot thank you guys enough for all the lovely comments regarding these last three weeks of airshows on Days. As I stated in a tweet about 5 1/2 months ago these were truly some of the most challenging and fulfilling scenes in my daytime career. Eve’s loss was life changing and forced me to go to a very dark place that no one ever wants to go to in “real life”. Throughout my day time span I have been fortunate enough to participate in some really wonderful stories with truly remarkable actors. I have the highest respect for the genre of which I am fortunate enough to be a part of. I strive for excellence and truth in every scene and though most are far from perfect it gives me great satisfaction in my work. I am fueled by a sincere appreciation for the opportunity to make a difference. The fans deserve the best that I can give to their shows they are so devoted to. The writers deserve the best I can bring to give justice to their words. I am truly grateful to have the opportunity to work in daytime!

It’s almost time to say goodbye to another Salem star. Kassie DePaiva, who has played Eve Larson since June 2014, has revealed that her final “Days of our Lives” air date is Tuesday, February 2.
DePaiva posted the news on Twitter, “Enjoy these last few grains of sand in my [hourglass]. My last air date on @nbcdays is 2/2. Time is running out. #DAYS.”
Enjoy these last few grains of sand in my . My last air date on @nbcdays is 2/2. Time is running out. #DAYS
DePaiva was front and center on Days upon her arrival as Eve. Her character promptly reignited her longtime feud with Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) and ultimately embarked on a scandalous affair with young JJ (Casey Moss). However, her storyline began dwindling after her onscreen daughter Paige (True O’Brien) was violently murdered.
The tease of a new romance with Justin (Wally Kurth) never amounted to anything, while the return of Eve’s ex-husband Eduardo (A Martinez) did little to increase DePaiva’s air time.
After a wild ride in Salem, look for Eve to slip out of town unceremoniously.
Days was DePaiva’s fourth soap. The daytime vet first joined the soap world back in 1986, when she was cast as Chelsea Reardon on “Guiding Light.” She went on to portray Blair Daimler Cramer on “One Life to Live” in 1993, remaining with the soap until its cancellation in 2012, and reprised the character on “General Hospital” for a few appearances.
On a special Sunday, February 14 episode of ABC’s “Castle,” former “One Life to Live” actress Kassie DePaiva (ex-Blair Cramer; Eve Donovan, “Days of our Lives”) will reunite with series star Nathan Fillion, who portrayed the role of Joey Buchanan on the daytime soap in the 1990’s, Soap Opera Network has learned.
The episode, titled “Witness for the Prosecution,” follows Castle (Fillion) finally getting his day in court when he takes the stand as a key witness to a murder that took place five months prior. Suddenly, when new information arises, he and Beckett (Stana Katic) race against the clock to prevent what is being dubbed, a “miscarriage of justice.”
DePaiva will portray Joanna Masters, a fan of Castle’s. Tuc Watkins, who played David Vickers on both the soap’s online and broadcast iteration, along with DePaiva, will appear as Roger Masters, the husband of DePaiva’s character.
“A murder mystery happens at our home,” says DePaiva to Soap Opera Network of her character’s involvement in the episode’s plotline. “It was so much fun. What a delightful set to work on,” she added.
In addition to DePaiva and Watkins, look for another “One Life” alum to appear in the episode via Darlene Vogel (ex-Melanie Farrell McIver) who appears as Sadie Beakman.
“Witness for the Prosecution” marks the first time an all-new episode of “Castle” has aired outside of its traditional Monday at 10:00 PM, ET/PT time period. The episode airs Sunday, February 14 at 10:01 PM, ET/PT on ABC.

The network has announced that the annual “Day of DAYS” event will return to Universal CityWalk, located next to Universal Studios Hollywood, on Saturday, November 11.
The all-day event, which began in 2008, brings fans closer than ever to their favorite stars from the daytime drama series and a sneak peek at what’s to come in Salem. It offers fans the chance to meet and greet Salem’s favorite cast members during autograph signings, a Q&A session, a trivia challenge and much more.
